Goddess of Spring and Death, Queen of the Underworld. Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. She was kidnapped by Hades and taken down to the underworld. while Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and harvest searched for her in despair and rage she let the earth wither and crops fail. The other gods were worried so Zeus decided to force Hades to relinquish Persephone as long as she had not eaten in the underworld however she had eaten some pomegranate seeds from Hades which meant she must spend 1/3 of the year in the underworld with Hades before spending the rest of the year above. When spring arrives it signals Persephone reuniting with her mother Demeter.
